Helping Oakland County Seniors Afford to Stay in the Communities They Call Home
Oakland County seniors have spent decades working, raising families, paying taxes, and contributing to their communities. Yet rising property taxes and the increasing costs of groceries, utilities, insurance, and prescription medications are making it more difficult for many older residents to remain in the homes and neighborhoods they love. Jeffrey Omtvedt believes Michigan must look for responsible ways to ease that burden.
“Seniors who have worked hard and played by the rules should not be taxed out of the homes and communities they helped build,” Jeffrey said.
As State Representative, Jeffrey will work with local leaders, senior advocates, and residents to identify practical solutions that reduce property-tax pressures while protecting essential community services. He will support greater transparency in government spending, examine available property-tax relief programs, and look for ways to make assistance easier for eligible seniors to access.
“We need to bring people together, review what is working, and find common-sense solutions that provide meaningful relief without weakening the services seniors depend on,” Jeffrey said.
Jeffrey also understands that tax relief must be part of a broader commitment to senior citizens. Transportation, meal programs, public safety, and services that help older adults remain independent are important investments in the strength of our communities.
“My goal is to listen to seniors, understand the challenges they are facing, and work every day to make Oakland County a place where they can continue to live safely and affordably,” Jeffrey said.
